Eid Al-Fitr is a two day occasion where the sighting of the new moon marks the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan where Muslims around the world had practiced obligatory fasting from dawn to sunset every day for a whole month. It is a day filled with gatherings which usually begins in the morning in congregational prayer before gathering with family and friends thereafter to enjoy lots of food, exchange gifts, and catch-up with family and friends after 29/30 days of prayer and reflection.
Ramadan this year would have been a very different experience with the outbreak of COVID-19 where the sense of community was missing due to countries going into lockdown in a month that's usually filled with togetherness. From multiple groups in the town centres raising money for various causes during the day to the masses of individuals that come together for congregational prayers during the night. Both had been devastatingly absent and unfortunately it will be the same case for Eid Al-Fitr as many countries remain in lockdown. However, one aspect of this occasion still remains achievable and that is the exchange of gifts!
This is our guide to putting a smile on a Muslim friend, family member or colleague's face on Eid Al-Fitr.
It's always easy to simply send a text message or circulate graphical images to send your wishes but here at Gift Me It we love tangibility and there's nothing more tangible than a physical card with a personal touch via a hand written message from the giver that the recipient can keep a hold of. It shows that you have gone out of your way to send your good wishes. Here are a couple of choices that we personally liked:
Be sure to stick to the social distancing measures as the greatest gift is the gift of good health and you can always get some Next Day Stamps to stick on the envelope and send the cards out to your loved ones instead.
A common tradition that's prevalent on this occasion around the world is the giving of Eidia commonly known as Eidi. This is a gift that is usually given to children by their elder relatives and the most common form of Eidi is money.
Food is a fundamental part of the Eid Al-Fitr celebrations (the best part in any occasion in our opinion). A mix of sweet and savour cultural dishes are prepared for all to enjoy throughout the two day holiday. Why not make these preparations easier for those loving members of the family who will be looking after the meals throughout the day this Eid?
Interesting Fact: Ramadan is remembered as the month when the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him received the first revelations of the Qur'an. It is believed that it was revealed by Allah when Muhammad was 40 years old and concluded 23 years later on the year of his death!
Finally, why not give the ultimate gift and pay for a meal for children in need around the world? ShareTheMeal are an organisation that allow you to donate money to provide meals to children around the world who need it the most. Donating as little as £0.35 is enough to feed a child for one day and £2.45 is enough to feed a child for a whole week! You can give as little or as much as you like with the aim to help feed children who are without vital nutrients for long periods of time in causes around the world.

For all those that are celebrating Eid this coming weekend, Eid Mubarak from all at Gift Me It. We hope you have an enjoyable couple of days!
